RRD-Araw sepak starts on Saturday, five more events set

The 2008 Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Araw ng Dabaw Men’s and Women’s Sepak Takraw Tournament reels off on Saturday, March 15, at the City Hall Drive.

Nilda Sebellino, Davao City Sepak Takraw Association president, said that this is the first time that they have included a women’s category.

Prizes are up for grabs in the three-day tournament supported by the Sports Development Division under City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go.

Chess will also start on Saturday at the Gaisano Mall, lawn tennis at Ecoland 4 Club, table tennis at the S.I.R. Elementary School, airsoft contest at the SM City Davao, and swimming at Gulf View.

UM A dominates RRD Pamaskong Handog College Sepak Takraw finals

University of Mindanao A used its superior skills to trounce the DMMA College of Southern Philippines, 2-0 in the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte College Sepak Takraw finals, Saturday afternoon, at the City Hall Drive.

Errol Valencia relently attacked at the net to pile up more points for UM A which started to pull away for good from 16-14 to 20-15. Mark Ong, Enjon Latonio helped with the defense to stop the attacks from DCSP.

DCSP had to rely on Melbert Ecoy, currently being courted by Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association (Pasta) officials to join the national team in Manila, but they could not find a solution to destroy UM A’s better plays and defense.

Awarding of prizes immediately followed with Davao Sipa Sepak Takraw Association President Nilda Sebellino leading officials in the ceremony.

The tournament was presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go’s support and sanctioned by Pasta Davao.

Calinan High bests AL Navarro High in RRD Sepak Takraw High School finals

Calinan National High bested A.L. Navarro National High in the high school finals of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Sepak Takraw Tournament, late Friday afternoon, at the City Hall Drive.

The Agustin Juyad-mentored Louie Andrade, Joel Libaton, Neil Mark Villaflor employed a better offense to stop teh squad of Jerson Too, Randy Trestiza, Lyster Intal, Chruck John Belesario and coach Bong Laureano.

Malabog SK settled for the second runner-up honors after beating Malabog National High School-B.

The event was presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go and the Davao Sipa Sepak Takraw Association.

Wangan stops Magallanes, 2-0 in RRD Pamaskong Handong sepak takraw finals

Wangan Elementary School stopped the Magallanes Elementary School, 2-0 to grab the elementary division title of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Sepak Takraw Tournament, late Thursday afternoon, at the City Hall Drive.

Billy Boy Adana, Genesis Odas and Julian Solis followed coach Agustin Juyad’s instructions and made the necessary attacks to trounce the combined efforts of Benedicto Pahay, Eric Savad, Christopher Andrada and coach Susan Garcia. Wangan SK copped third place by blanking Magallanes B, 2-0 in the earlier game of the event presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go. 

The high school division will resume on Friday morning (December 21), 8 a.m., while the collegiate division gets going on Saturday, December 22.

 

Nilda Sebellino, President of the Davao Sipa and Sepak Takraw Association, said some players of the national team who were with them in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand will be visiting Davao City to see the games.

 

 

RRD Pamaskong Handog tennis, sepak takraw start on Thursday

The tennis and sepak takraw events will start on Thursday, December 20, as part of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Sportsfest at separate venues.

Tennis will be played at the Ecoland IV Tennis Club while sepak takraw will be at the City Hall Drive. Opening ceremonies are at 8 a.m.

The best young talents will be featured in the events who are also honing their skills for bigger tournaments in the future.

The tournaments are presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go and Philippine Lawn Tennis Association Regional Director Juanito Cansino Jr. and Davao Sipa Sepak Takraw Association President Nilda Sebellino.

Dama will also kick off on Friday, December 21 at the Osmeña Plaza while billiards will be at the Reynaldo’s Billiards Hall at Mt.Apo Street.
