The men of the tour prime up for a battle royale up in Baguio City next week when the ICTSI-Camp John Hay Championship, now a four-day event offering a top prize of P2.5 million, is played April 24-27 at Camp John Hay Golf Club.
Dabawenyo Elmer Salvador, the best placed Filipino at fifth in last week’s inaugural Solaire Open at Wack Wack, heads the early roster of players vying for the top P450,000 purse in the event serving as the second leg of this year’s ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour.
Mars Pucay, who finished joint sixth with Miguel Tabuena in Solaire Open, is also in the fold along with Jhonnel Ababa, Ferdie Aunzo, Jerson Balasabas, Cassius Casas, Rufino Bayron, Jun Bernis, Charles Hong, Carl Santos-Ocampo, Mhark Fernando, Zanieboy Gialon, Edward Reyes and Gerald Rosales.
Jay Bayron, the reigning Asian Development Tour Order of Merit champion, is also listed in the early roster of players together with last year’s winner Marvin Dumandan.
Tabuena topped the local circuit’s kickoff at Sherwood Hills in Cavite last month, beating Reyes by a whopping eight-shot margin. The 18-year-old ace shotmaker, however, has yet to confirm his participation in the upcoming Baguio event.
Meanwhie, action in the circuit, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., resumes on May 8-10 with the ICTSI Calatagan Challenge in Batangas with Orchard hosting the next leg on May 22-25 for the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship, another four-day, P2.5 million event.
The ICTSI-Orchard tournament, backed by Sharp, Nike Golf, Callaway, Titleist, Custom Clubmakers, Mizuno, Cleveland Golf, Foot Joy, Event Captain, Inc., Omnisource Inti’l. TPGAP and media partners Balls, A Round of Golf, Inquirer Golf, Studio 23 and Pinoygolfer.com, also serves as an ADT leg along with the Aboitiz Invitational on July 24-27 at the Cebu Country Club.
The Duel, pitting the top players from the North and South, will be played June 3-7, also at Alabang Country Club, before the circuit goes to Mindanao for the ICTSI Rancho Palos Verdes, ICTSI Del Monte Championship and ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship on June 26-28, July 3-5, and July 10-12, respectively.(pr)
