Dottie Ardina followed up his solid opening 69 with a more impressive 68 but found a new challenger in ICTSI-The Country Club teammate Princess Superal in the second round of the True Visions International Junior Golf Championship 2013 in Bangkok late Wednesday.
Ardina, who started the round one-stroke ahead of Indonesian Millie Saroha, flashed top form in shooting a four-under card on six birdies against two bogeys as she pooled a 36-hole aggregate of 137 to post a two-shot lead over a charging Superal.
The 16-year-old Superal, winner of 11 titles last year, bucked a bogey with a slew of birdies, including three on the last six holes to match Ardina’s 68 for a 139 as the top Filipina bets poised themselves for a 1-2 finish in the 72-hole tournament featuring the region’s leading junior players.
Taiwan’s Yi Ching Wu matched 72 for third at 142.
But while Ardina held sway in Class A, ICTSI teammate Abby Arevalo wavered with a 39 at the back and finished with a four-over 76, yielding int eh Class B lead to Thai Papamkhon Tavatanakit, who carded a 72 for a 144.
Arevalo totaled a 146, one shot ahead of another Thai Jaravee Bunchat, who made a 73.
Sofia Chabon sizzled with a 67 after a 76 as she moved to third in Class C with a 143, four strokes behind fellow Filipina Harmie Constantino of Aguinaldo, who fired a 71, and Thailand’s Pornpawee Tanavichai, who shot a 69, for 139s.
Ardina, winner of last week’s Thailand Ladies Open’s 18-20 crown and the WWWExpress-DHL Open back home last month, birdied Nos. 1 and 6 but dropped a stroke on No. 8 before gunning down three birdies on the last six holes to complete a 35-33 card.(pr)
