LSGH takes three-point Inter-Scholastics golf lead

JP De Claro gunned down two birdies in his final six holes on Saturday to rescue a level-par 72 and lead La Salle-Greenhills (LSGH) to a three-point lead over Lyceum in the NGAP’s first-ever Inter-Scholastics Golf championship.
Luigi Guerrero returned a 73 and Inigo Raymundo’s 74 was thrown away as La Salle tallied 145 in the three-to-play, two-to-count format of the 72-hole event presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at Canlubang’s South course in Laguna
Wolen Superal returned the day’s only sub-par card, a 69, that powered Lyceum to a 148 after the Intramuros-based squad counted either 79s of Dan Cruz or Carlos Tinio III.
De Claro, a veteran campaigner in big amateur events, had a horrid three-hole stretch from No. 8 where he went bogey-double bogey and bogey before catching fire in the stretch and save the day for LSGH.
Beacon got a 72 from the promising Gabriel Manotoc but had to count the 83 of the returning Basti Lorenzo for 154 like De La Salle (DLSU) to be nine down in the event that serves as part of the PLDT Group Amateur Golf Tour.
This tournament is the first for the 15-year-old Lorenzo, who missed the Philippine Airlines Interclub in Cebu for Alabang after dislocating his left shoulder in practice.
Eric Gallardo fired a 75 and Marvin Mendoza added a 79 for DLSU, with De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB) shooting a 160 on the strength of Joseph Uy’s 76 and RG Medestomas’ 84.
The event will be played for two weekends with the champion school to go home with P100,000 for its athletic program. Second place is would be worth P50,000.(pr)
