Pueblo golfers retain PAL Interclub lead

Pueblo de Oro kept the lead in the championship division Friday, but saw its margin cut to just three points by Luisita halfway through the Philippine Airlines Interclub
seniors’golf tournament in Cebu City.
Fielding the same team that posted the best score at Alta Vista Thursday, Pueblo scored 132 points at the Club Filipino de Cebu for a two-day aggregate of 285.
Victor Yuvallos led Pueblo with 47 points while Clifford Celdran added 45.
Ed Yap counted with 40.
The second round score was 21 points less than their opening 153, but Celdran said it was expected and understandable.
“It’s hard to play for two consecutive days,” said Celdran, who on Thursday sizzled with 55 points. “We came here with only third place in mind, but if we win, why not?”
Celdran said half of their team is still in Cagayan de Oro still waiting for the plane that would take them here.
“We’re leaving today. Four of our teammates are arriving to play the next two rounds,” said Celdran.
Luisita and Canlubang, still tipped to fight for the title, each carded 135 points as they go into the weekend separated by only two points.
Pepot Inigo and Francis Gaston posted 47 and 46, respectively while Seve Roxas Chua counted with 42 for Luisita. Rudy Amata failed to count after a 41.
Canlubang was led by team owner Luigi Yulo and Dave Hernandez who had 46
points apiece. Tony Olives completed scoring with 43 as Philip Brodett’s 41 failed to count.
Olives said they like their chances.
“All of our players have now played. We want to keep them fresh as possible,” said Olives.
Meanwhile, Cebu Country Club seized the lead in the Founders’ division, firing 141 points for a two-day total of 282, four points ahead of Alta Vista.
Ramontito Garcia shot 49, Leor Alaan and Koitchi Horii added 46 for CCC.
Manila Golf Club was running third with 273 after a 127.
