DabTOA: WE ARE NOT PART OF DAVAO YOUTH GAMES
The Dabaw Tourism Operators Association (Dabtoa) is not involved with the forthcoming Davao Youth Games.
This was declared on Friday by DabTOA President Charito Aranda to clear the air on the reported involvement of the umbrella organization of tourism operators in the city with the sports competition organized by a private firm.
“We are not a party to the Davao Youth Games in any capacity, much more as a beneficiary of the proceeds of the event,” Aranda said after consulting the DabTOA Board with the formal declaration.
It was recalled that DabTOA earlier agreed to partner with Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management, Inc. (Easmi) to stage a sports competition for children in Davao City . The event was set on May 13-16 with several events to be contested.
However, after the initial event announcement at a press forum sometime in April, there were no more coordination meetings or communications made with DabTOA. “We did not even know it was changed to youth games when we agreed on children’s games. We we’re not also informed of the changes in the events and the collection of certain amount of registration fees,” Aranda added.
Since there were no communications until the original date of the event, Aranda said DabTOA proceeded with another event which was the Kayak competitions held last weekend at the Bluejaz Resort and Waterpark in Samal Island.
DabTOA reacted when it was announced recently by an Easmi spokesman during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum that the proceeds of the event will go to DabTOA. The logo of DabTOA is also included in the announcement banner of the said event.
“We would like to inform the public that DabTOA is not officially part of the Davao Youth Games. Any collections made in our name or which is advertised to benefit DabTOA is not authorized by us,” she added.
DabTOA is committed to promote tourism in the city and the Davao Region and will do so with several future projects including a familiarization tour this weekend in Maragusan, Compostela Valley .
