3,500 runners have registered for the 1st Araw ng Dabaw Phoenix Run this March 13 in Davao City. Registration has been extended to March 10 to accommodate late registrants. Phoenix Petroleum Philippines is expecting 4,000 to 4,500 runners this Sunday, with participants from Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Tagum.
The run’s theme is “Takbo Para Sa KinaBOOKasan” for the benefit of Phoenix Philippines Foundation’s adopted schools which will receive books. Everyone is encouraged to donate educational books to benefit public schools.
Sen. Pia Cayetano and her Pinay in Action Team will join the race. “This year’s theme, ‘Takbo Para sa KinaBOOKasan’ is something close to my heart. As a senator, I have always put premium on education and health, together with upholding the rights of women and children and environmental protection.!” said Sen. Cayetano. “It is my pleasure to be a part of this run. I share in the advocacy to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage everyone to do their share in spreading knowledge to underprivileged children by donating books.”
Roxas Avenue will be the start and finish venue of the Phoenix Run. The categories are 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K, with winners each for men and women. The Phoenix Run will introduce innovations like the use of timing shoe tags for the 10K and 21K categories.
Other fun events in the Phoenix Run include the Biggest School, NGO/Corporate and Government Delegation and the Jazz Up your Singlet contest.
21K first-placers will receive a grand prize of P15,000 in cash, 5,000 worth of fuel cards, and a trophy. The top six finishers (three male and female each) of the 21K race will be chosen to represent Phoenix to the CamSur international marathon. This opportunity is exclusive to all Filipino elite runners.
10K winners will get P10,000, fuel cards worth P4,000, and a trophy. Top 10 finishers for the 21K and 10K categories will receive prizes.
5K winners will receive P5,000 in cash. The 3K category is open to all but competing for children 12 years old and below. Winners will receive P2,000 cash.
Registration is ongoing at Phoenix Acacia, Adidas Shop at Gaisano Mall of Davao, Run Club Davao, Dencio’s Kamayan SM Davao, Holiday Gym and Spa, MetroLifestyle Fitness Center & Spa, and Beefit Gym.
Entry fees are P150 for the 3K and P200 for the 5K run inclusive of race bib, light meal and finisher’s certificate. Fee for 10K is P350 and for 21K P450 inclusive of race bib, timing band and finisher’s certificate. 21K finishers will also receive a medal.
