Heavyweights Davao City National High School, Ateneo de Davao University and Philippine Nikkei Jin-Kai International School strolled to their second straight win each to show the way in the Shakey’s Girls V League Mindanao Eliminations at the DCNHS Gym over the weekend.

DCNHS, the reigning champions and solid favorites to retain their title, spanked erstwhile co-leader Stella Maris Academy 25-7 25-7 to take the solo lead in Group A with a 2-0 win-loss mark.

Not to be outdone, their archrivals from Ateneo kept in stride with an equally impressive stomping of Thompson Christian High School, 25-8 25-8 to tow Group B. Thompson dropped to 1-1, a game behind the pacesetting Blue Knights.

PNJK, fast emerging as a third force in this event organized by the Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management, dropped Davao Christian 25-13 25-10, to be at the familiar spoiler’s role. Davao Christian came down to its second loss in as many starts.

The winner in this leg will advance to the Tournament of Champions set April at St. LaSalle in Bacolod City. (pr)
