In behalf of organizers, Davao FA president Rafael “Pops” Vilela and SOS Village director Leonilo Rivero, we would like to thank the participants for the support to the children under the care of SOS. We hope that they will participate again in the upcoming soccer tournament which SOS will be sponsoring.

Trophies and medals were awarded the top three teams in each category. A total of 68 teams participated.

DAVAO CITY TCHOUKBALL RRD CUP OPENS TODAY

THE  DAVAO CITY TCHOUKBALL ASSOCIATION IN COOPERATION WITH THE FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHELTES (FCA) WILL HOLD ITS FIRST DAVAO CITY TCHOUKBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS RRD CUP STARTING TODAY UNTIL OCTOBER 31 AT THE HOLY CHILD SCHOOL OF DAVAO COVERED COURT AND THE ALMENDRAS GYM.

Seventeen teams are expected to participate in four  categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Boys Under 18 and Girls Under 18.

Former Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez and currently the Chairman of the board of the Philippine Tchoukball Federation will be the keynote speaker during the opening ceremonies at 10:30 AM right after the colorful motorcade around the city.

Coach Blair T. Cuares, PTF Vice-President for Mindanao and FCA Area Director said that “we are very excited to hold our First Davao City Tchoukball Championship this coming October 29 & 30. We appreciate the support extended by the different schools & institutions.”

Winners in this tournament will received trophies and medals. They will also have the chance to participate in the First Philippine Open Tchoukball Championships which will be held here in Davao City on January 28-30, 2011.

Powerhouse Chinese Taipei, current world champions and Singapore, silver medalist in the recent Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships held in Singapore last July, 2010 will be sending their national teams to participate in this event together with Malaysia & China.

The 1st Davao City Tchoukball Championships is sanctioned by the Philippine Tchoukball Federation. (pr)

Ateneo de Davao Blue Knights arrive safely in Dumaguete for Nat’l UniGames

Ateneo de Davao University coach Cholo Elegino and his Blue Knights are bracketed in one of the toughest brackets, Bracket C, in the prestigious 2010 National University Games in Dumaguete City.

The DACS and GS Cup titlists arrived in lovely Dumaguete, home of my lolo Tikyo’s alma mater the College of Law of Silliman University, and we wish them good luck.

The week-long UniGames will formally open on October 24, Sunday, at the Julio Sy grandstand and Filomena Cimafranca ballfield.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman Ritchie Garcia and commissioner Chito Loyzaga will be on hand to deliver their messages to the 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials in attendance.
