In October, Steve “Red Knight” Grandeza is gunning for a world title against Al Haddad “Van Damme” Okine of Ghana in Dubai. The fight is organized by KO Promotions and sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Federation.
Grandeza’s recent victory against Francis “Baguio” Romero in the Ultimate Strikers Championship 5 at SM Bicutan has cemented his place as the best fighter and the well-deserved martial artist to get a crack at a world crown.
Steve has started his training for the world fight and tapped Manny Pacquiao’s former sparring mate, Rudy Tacogue, to hone his boxing skills.
Coaches Edgar Alan Paulino, regional director of the Muay Thai Kickboxing Council of the Philippines, Bryan Grandeza and Jojo Gatmaitan and instructor Edgardo “Bing” Grandeza have been all eyes on Steve’s progress and from the way it looks, the Red Knight is on the right track.
Weeks before the fight, Steve will be 100 percent ready. And I hope, he won’t get a call from KO Promotions that his opponent won’t be available, again.
Steve would like also to express his appreciation for the support from Phoenix Petroleum Phils. president Dennis Uy, Davao City Mayor Sara and Vice Mayor Rody Duterte, Bong Go, Ben Sur and Butch Ramirez in his recent campaign.

SM City Davao will have its turn to host the Mindanao leg of the 18th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship on September 25 to 26.
The Championship is the country’s longest running grassroots-based tournament where one can see the best 20 years old and under and 14 years old and under players who will vie for slots to the national finals in October.
Contact National Chess Federation of the Philippines national arbiter Ronnie M. Tabudlong at the Blue Knight Chess Club’s office, 86-1 Bonifacio Street or call (082)3004260 because participation will be on a first come, first serve basis.
The tournament has become so prestigious that organizers can no longer accommodate more players.
