Team Frontrunner, composed of Nhea Anne Barcena. Luisa Raterta, Ailene Tolentino and Marecil Maquillan, lived up to its name as it bested 80 other teams to rule the first Team Woman Run at the Venice Piazza Mall at McKinley Hill last Sunday.
The foursome tackled the 21k relay event, which featured uphill stretches and divided into 10k, 5k and two 3k stages, in 1:20:45, nipping Team Dagan Cebuana in a down-to-the-wire battle for top honors.
Frontrunner won a whopping P70,000 prize staked in the event presented by Woman by Lactacyd which featured career women, including corporate executives and managers as well as running enthusiasts from the different sectors and members of the various running clubs.
The Cebuanas, headed by Madeline Carter, Mary Joy Tabal, Iorhiz Echavez and Monica Torres, clocked 1:20:42 and took the runner-up honors worth P35,000. Rizo Tangan, Mimi Lucas, Ani de Leon and Belle Grandinetti of Fitness First-South Tri finished third with a 1:28:28 clocking, They received P20,000.
Perlita Ruben copped the individual crown worth P20,000 while Luzel Franco and Merlyn Orillo finished second and third and took home P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
Saluan Serenata, meanwhile, outsprinted Miscelle Gilbuena to top the Open 5k run with an 18:02 clocking. Gilbuena timed 18:21 for second while Susan Jemutai Chepkwony came in third in 18:35.
Hogging the spotlight in the event, backed by 100 Plus, Alaska Slim, Beauty Bar, Bluewater Day Spa, David’s Salon, Dole, Summit and Timex and media partners Multisport, Runnerspeak and Women’s Health, was Rockin’ Dolls, which won the best in costume award worth P30,000.
Team Lulu placed second and received P15,000, Team-Pakta finished third and took home P10,000 while Team Sea Princess, composed of Tessa Prieto, Joey Carpo, Malu Gamboa and Leah Caringal, also took a special costume award.(pr)
