Linajan is best bodybuilder, Cerna leads RRD-Inday Sara Kadayawan dama winners

Romeo Linajan emerged as the best bodybuilder in the 2008 Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte-Kadayawan Bodybuilding Contest, held over the weekend, at the BFAR covered court.

Linajan bested the efforts of Rogelio Almasa for the top honors while Jimmy Adjad settled for third place.

Barging in the Top 10 were Rey Ylanan (4th), Emmanuel and Rogerjen Mipania (5th-6th), Jerry Duites (7th), Elias Benoya (8th), Narfel Abenoja (9th) and Baltazar Baritua (10th).

At the Osmena Park, Ronnie Cerna ruled class A of the dama tournament by beating Edwin Cabalquinto in the finals. Daniel Asor took the third spot after outsmarting Roy Rodas.

In class B, Dionesio Rodas Jr. took the title from Benjamin Barangay while Joel Lado came in third followed by Flaviano Lugatiman at fourth.

In class C, Hermogenes Bacquiano won the finals against Ramiro Tan while Alejandro Aglipa and Cesar Traya wound at third and fourth spots, respectively.

Tournament director Marcelino Bongcaras thanked Mayor Rody Duterte and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte for their continued support to dama.

Prado defeats Roa in RRD-Inday Kadayawan table tennis final

Mark Anthony Prado of the University of Mindanao defeated Conrado Roa of Brokenshire College in the class B finals of the 2008 Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Kadayawan Table Tennis Tournament, Sunday, at the S.I.R. Elementary School Table Tennis Center.

Ryan Datuin of D.Aguinaldo National High landed at third place.

The tournament is part of the Kadayawan Festival sportsfest presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte.

Umayan rules RRD-Inday Sara Kadayawan Open chessfest

Vincent Umayan scored seven points to win the 2008 Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte-Kadayawan Open Chess Tournament title, Sunday, at the Holy Cross of Davao College campus.

Umayan took the solo first spot and won by half point over joint second placers Reynaldo Quinonez and Jerwel Andoy.

Tied for third spot with six points, apiece, were Gerald Cavan, Irwin Aton, national master Cedric Magno, Henry Lopez, Jay Bulicatin, Jacob Literatus and Ruel Nuttal.

The youth category will be played on August 30 to 31 as part of the Kadayawan Sports Festival supported by the Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office in coordination with the NCFP-XI.

RRD-Inday Sara Kadayawan taekwondo tourney on Sunday

The 2008 Mayor Rody and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Kadayawan Taekwondo Tournament kicks off on Sunday, August 31, at the SM City Davao.

The tournament starts at 10 a.m.

Young boys and girls as well as veteran players are seeing action in the one-day tournament organized as part of the Kadayawan Sports Festival supported by the Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office and sanctioned by the Philippine Taekwondo Association-XI.

Filipino-Spanish Friendship Football Festival on Aug.30 to 31

This coming August 30 & 31 (Saturday and Sunday) the Davao Football Association in affiliation with the Philippine Football Federation will present the Filipino-Spanish Friendship Football Festival sa Kadayawan at the Tionko Football Field, Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.

This event encourages a festive atmosphere, sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst players and spectators. All games will be played in 7 aside format.

Wang wins gold medal in Beijing Olympics’ demo sport

Filipino athletes and officials sang the Philippine national anthem on Friday when Willy Wang won a gold medal in demonstration sport, wushu, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Wang bested the efforts of Taipei’s Peng Wei-Chua in the men’s nanquan finals while Malaysia’s Pui Fook Chien settled for the bronze medal.

Wang tallied 19.44 points, Peng had 19.39 and Pui came up with 19.34 points.

First Gentleman Mike Arroyo attended the awarding ceremony at the Olympic Center Sports Gymnasium together with sports officials led by Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

DATEC Prince Kadayawan tournament at Eco2

While the Kadayawan festivity is a celebration of bountiful harvests for Davao, the Davao Association of Tennis Clubs, Inc. (DATEC) contributes to the influx of tourists in the City as it opens today its DATEC Prince Kadayawan Doubles Tournament

Sponsored by Sports Resources, Inc., dealer of Prince Racquets, Ms. Lisa Enciso-Labrador  arrived yesterday to personally witness the opening ceremony to be held at the Eco2 Tennis Courts in Ecoland Subdivision. Ms. Labrador has extended to DATEC its interest in giving its full support to the activities of DATEC and has in fact committed that the Kadayawan Tournament is now among its major activities supported by them.

DATEC President, Atty.Ed Caboverde already received from Prince, the racquets set to be distributed to the Champions of all categories , including trophies and medals. Tshirts have been provided to the first 100 participants. Since entries have reached to 190 players, the balance has been provided by the DATEC.

DATEC acknowledges support of  Tennis Pro owner, Rey Castillo , who has always been very supportive of DATEC activities by way of  discounted ball provisions,. Likewise, Councilor Leo Avila has committed to supply part of the ball requirements.
