GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The MP Warriors-GenSan try to solidify their grip on the top of the Mindanao Division on Saturday, November 10, by hosting Arthro Kontra Arthritis at the Oval Plaza Covered Court starting at 6:00PM in continuing action at the 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference.
The team of boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will finally play in front of its home fans seeing action in their adopted home of Digos City for their first two home stands. Coach Ramon Pido has steered the team to a 2-4 win-loss record, needing a win on Saturday before they engage their fellow Mindanao teams to end the classification round of the league sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP-SBP).
The Warriors beat Arthro, 74-67, last September 19 on the road at the New Cebu Coliseum, the third playdate of the league made possible by ML Kwarta Padala, Nature’s Spring, Sulpicio Lines, Cokaliong Shipping, Accel, Reva Sandals, Gameface.Ph and Nike Basketball.
Leading the charge for the Warriors are big men Rolly Menor (17.0 points per game) and Erian Daja (10.7 ppg). The key to victory for the Warriors will be the play of their guards, as Coach Pido hopes to get more consistency from Roderick Ramos, Louie Medalla, Donald Tadena, Jethrone Recustodio and Apol Coronado.
Meanwhile, Arthro of Jonathan Guardo and Coach Al Solis will play the second game in their three-game Mindanao tour. Arthro was playing the winless Goldstar Hardware-backed Duterte Agilas-Davao at press time at the Davao City Recreation Center. Coach Solis wants to end the classification round on a positive note before his wards tackle Cebu Landmaster-Mandaue (8-2) in the Visayas Division Wild Card playoffs.
Arthro totes a 3-4 card and will hinge its fortunes on the good play of guards Alex Cainglet (14.8 ppg), Doroteo Almacin (12.6 ppg), Mark Jonas Ababon (12.5 ppg) and Ronald Bucao (7.6 ppg).
Arthro will end its Mindanao tour with a visit to Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr on Monday (November 12) at the Xavier University Gym.(Anthony Servinio)
