All is set for the 6th Shrine Challenge 10-kilometer and a five-kilometer Fun Run where a thousand runners from all over Mindanao are expected to join the prestigious annual event on June 28, 2009 at the scenic Matina Hills here in Davao City.
Organized by the Davao Sunday Runners Club Inc. (SUNRUN), the event will start at the Jack Ridge Restaurant at 6:00 o’clock in the morning with an “out and back” route for the 5K fun run and a looping route from Shrine Hills Road to the Diversion Road and downhill to Pangi up to the McArthur Highway, then to the uphill Virgo and Pluto Sts. of GSIS Village. As a last kick of the race, the runners have to negotiate the uphill Shrine Road up to its finish line at the Jack Ridge Restaurant.
Cash and gift items amounting to P40, 000 are at stake for the winners of the foot race as well as participants will have the chance to win in the raffle that includes two original Oakley Sunglasses.
The first three finishers of the 10K will receive cash prizes for both men and women divisions while valuable gift items will be awarded to the first three finishers (Men & Women) of the 5K Fun run.
Sunrun president Atty. Albert Aportadera said this year’s event will be festive as beautiful running singlet will given away to the first 500 registrants and aside from the possibility of winning raffle prizes, all participants will be treated with breakfast.
Aportadera said that participants must register earlier on or before June 26 this month even as he stresses Sunrun will no longer accommodate registrations after the said cut off date. The registration fee is pegged at P150.00 inclusive of running singlet (first 500 registrants only) and breakfast. Runners may also opt to pay P50.00 inclusive only of breakfast.
Registration is now going on at the Monteverde Petron Station along Monteverde corner Gempesaw Sts. Monday to Saturday from 9am up to 4pm. Or interested parties may inquire at Tel. 221-6271. (sportsnews/josan)
