Col. Palawan Macadindang, the club President of the Tagum Tennis Club and Sports Inc., played the gracious host to the members of the Davao Association of Tennis clubs, Inc.(DATEC) as it hosted the 2nd board meeting of the DATEC for 2008. Officers and other members of the club were likewise present to participate in the meeting as it looks forward to hosting an age group tournament.
One of the items in the agenda is the upcoming partnership of the DATEC with the Cebuana Lhuilleir Group as part of their 10-leg age group tournament. Region XI through the DATEC has been given 4 legs of these tournament which will be held in Mati City, Tagum City and 2 tournaments in Davao City (Ecoland Tennis Center and Toril Tennis Club) from May 10 to May 28,2008. The President of St. John of the Cross in Mati City, Mr. Peter Ong also attended and while expressing apprehension on hosting is also excited at the thought of giving opportunities for kids. Mr. Alex Bernan of the Ecoland Tennis Center committed to help in whatever way their club can help especially for kids development. Engr. Virgilio Anuta of the Toril Tennis Club also wants to be assured that DATEC be on top of the activities. To prepare for the event and to ensure that available clubs are ready, The Capitol Tennis Club President Engr. Rolly Tañara and Eco2 Tennis Club President Engr. Carol Angel agreed to be back-up courts.
The DATEC have been faithfully pursuing one of its dreams and visions through the establishment of a Tennis Academy Foundation (DATEC-TAF). The foundation provides free tennis training to young and interested youths all over Davao City. The DATEC-TAF survives on assistance and donations by patrons and benefactors among Among officials who had been tirelessly supporting the DATEc are Congressman Vince Garcia and Councilor Leo Avila II. The DATEC TAF extends its gratitude for the support since to sustain the program, funds will really be needed. Other private groups and individuals have likewise been very supportive.
It’s been a big challenge to the DATEC as more sponsors and supporters are slowly coming in to help and to come up with good programs. Mr. Alex Ferraren is the training director of the DATEC-TAF and Ms. Marivic Salvador of the DepEd has been giving the kids the needed lessons on the theoretical aspects of the game.(Carol Angel)
